FWLUG Logo

Postby maczimus » Sat Jan 17, 2009 1:15 pm

Created a real quick logo for the group. I am not a gimp expert but I struggled through it.

Found the Tux on Google Images. Original author was unknown on the site i found it on.

Feel free to change it or use it.

That is a REALLY nice image.

Problem: Any logo that goes on shirts will need to be monochrome. Saves enormously on cost.

Where did you find the image exactly? Was it a bitmap graphic or a vector graphic?

it's a PNG graphic.

Oh! So you didn't create it. I did some googling and found an SVG of the root penguin. "TUX-G2-SVG.svg" Might want to google for that and you should have little trouble locating it. I am still learning Inkscape, but if you are at all interested in creating your own stuff, I would recommend using Inkscape over GiMP for things like logos. Logos tend to want to scale and resize for different uses and since GiMP is bitmap oriented, it is much more difficult to maintain image quality when scaling. (You can only effectively scale down.. scaling up becomes ugly.) I also came across a nice web site that provides flash based animated tutorials for doing really nice looking stuff using Inkscape, so it's a rather nice launch pad into using it.

http://inkscapegallery.net/en/home

Playing with graphics can be daunting at first until you develop a conceptual appreciation for what you are attempting to do. Both GiMP and Inkscape are powerful tools for different types of graphic work. It might be the difference between Photoshop and Illustrator.

Looks good! I'll have to see about integrating it into the web page for a test run... Thanks!

You could ask me... I happen to know how to do some nice things.

Question: Is that the font you want to use? Is there another you would rather see?

Where is this more monochrome Tux you would like to use?

Well, how does it look? (Hint: Look at the top of the page, in case you missed it!)

FYI... I had to scale the image down to 120x120. 380x380 took up a little too much screen real-estate. The original logo is pre-set at 139*52
