Looks to be more of an offical job title change then an actual responsibilities change. I can't speak for him, but I never got the impression that Shuttleworth was ever interested in the long term piloting of a company. He appears to be more interested in the development side of Ubuntu then the business side. Considering they haven't ever turned a profit, I would imagine the business side is pretty boring.
