Giving away Hardware

Postby stack » Mon May 25, 2009 11:30 am

Hey guys,
I have just gotten a load of equipment. Some of it is in good shape, some of it is really old, some rather new. Anyway, I am testing and sorting the hardware now. I can't haul all of this to the meeting (esp if no one wants it) and since some of it is /really/ old (and some of it is busted) I will be dumping most of it into a computer recycling center on Thursday. If you want anything post and I will save it.

==Items I am keeping around for people to request==
*3x Dell 1710 laser printers : my short tests show that these work. I used an Ubuntu live CD 9.04 and just hit print so Linux is supported :D I was told that the reason why they were dumped was because the printer ink was more expensive for these printers then the other printers that the company used so instead of having two types of printers they just ordered the exact same model of the cheaper printers.

*2 tower cases. Just computer cases. Decent shape.

*Firewire to iPod cable. My iPod can't transfer over firewire, but it does charge so I guess the cable works. :|

==Items that are hitting the recycle bin on Thursday==
*4x laptop IDE hard drives all under 6GB in size

*10x Desktop IDE hard drives all under 15GB in size

*A box full of Desktop PC133/100/66 memory all under 128MB in size (the limited testing I did showed most of them worked)

*5 sticks of Laptop PC133/100/66memory 1x128MB 1x64MB 3x32MB

As I work through the rest I will update. If you want /any/ of this stuff let me know and I will set it aside for you.

Thanks for the heads up Stack.....You can get cheap refills on toner at Cartridge World on South Hulen....They refill with manufacture approved toner and you can get it much cheaper than buying new. I have a laser printer and I love it as I dont have to buy INK all the time...

Will do!

I will check tomorrow morning around 7am-ish. If no one has claimed anything then the junk items are hitting the recycling bin. I will update the post to reflect what I still have.

Have fun!

Are the cases any good? I hate the cases I am using now.

How big are these laser printers?

Not to hijack the thread, I do have a hardware request for anyone. I am looking for a small sata hard drive and a pci express video card. Have stuff to trade for them.

The cases were a medium size tower cases but I found someone willing to pay me lunch for them so they are gone. Sorry for not checking the thread first

The printers are like 2 feet cubed.

Don't have a small SATA drive you can have (well not one that works anyway but if you want a broken 80GB I can get you the hook up  ).

I do have a ATI PCI express card. Works /GREAT/ if you want a basic display. However, it sucks trying to do 3D stuff in Linux/Windows. I also have access to a nvidia, but it is a really low end one. Doesn't support compiz or VDPAU.

Sorry I don't have better options but you can have whatever you want.
